What a great ad thorough explanation. I have been looking for something just like this. Nathan, i look forward to utilizing Tabata's in my personal routines as I still am recovering from L5 fusion. I am almost 6 months post surgery and I can do unite a bit regarding exercising. I am a new FBBC owner and I am in the process of finalizing a location. I cant wait to use Tabatas after of course everyone goes through a conditioning period. I think Dr Tabata would be impressed with your dissection of what a Tabata is and how there are progressed through intensity and duration- Great Job!

EXCELLENT Post! thank you for it.

This gives me a better understanding of how to create circuits. It's always seemed like some kind of black magic, but you've laid it out in logical terms.

I completely agree with unilateral training as the best manner to address compensation of the body. We train in the gym with this core-challenging and unilateral method daily- very hard and can be time consuming are the only drawbacks, but superceeds that bilateral machine lifting or even bilateral free-weight lifting.
Loved the article and thanks for getting the message out there!

I am one of those busy moms who NEVER eats breakfast! I am so busy trying to get the kids up and dressed and fed that I just end up not eating. I know it's not good, but it seems like when I do try to eat, my food(cereal) ends up getting soggy and poured down the drain anyways. I will have to check out the prograde lean!

Something I forgot to touch on is this fad of 'muscle confusion'. Your muscles get no more confused than a tree that has to grow around an object. In the same manner you're body will grow around whichever 'objects' you place in it's path.

Changing the 'location'(training protocols) of the object and you'll have one messed up looking tree(body).

'Muscle Confusion' is great for those with exercise ADD, it's also great for injuries and being moderately good at a few things.

Working on a periodized cycle(like above) developing skills over a few weeks before changing them up is much more efficient for both strength and body composition(fat loss/muscle development). It also has a good psychological element of you being able to see yourself getting stronger and more efficient every training session vs not finding out for several months when you finally do that exercise again.
