On Saturday May 8th the Colorado Springs branch of Fit Body Bootcamp had it’s grand opening. The morning started out nice as me and my girlfriend arrived an hour prior to set everything up. Then the fun began…But let me backtrack a bit. We had just arrived back from California the week prior which was the Fitness Marketing Summit and Fit Body Bootcamp World conference. So heads about to explode with information, now time to kick it in and get the grand opening as well as the 21 day Rapid Fat Loss Program up and running.
So a week of running around all crazy trying to get everything prepped resulted in doing the banner the day prior. If you ever need a banner made quickly, Office Max got it done in less than an hour! Now came the fun part. I went to Home Depot and found some stakes and a grommet kit. Well little did I know how much putting grommets in the old fashioned way would suck! Especially through vinyl, must of taken almost 20 min to get through the first hole. An hour and a mess later the banner was done.
Back to opening morning. So a week of busting it around town trying to get some cool stuff together taking about 14 hours a day and here it all culminates. In we pull and start grabbing some stuff to bring in. Hmmm odd, two cars already parked here. I’m always the only one here this early even on weekends. Inside we go to find a slumber party still sleeping in the primary studio haha! Not a problem, think on our feet, get everything set up down the hall till mommy and daddy pick up little suzie….Well not quite. As I’m pounding in the stakes for the banner into hard rock with a tiny rubber mallet(great planning again there…) my girlfriend runs out and tells me we’re moving into studio 4. That’s cool, but I don’t have a key and wasn’t there a birthday party in there later? Long story short we had a princess party as well as workouts
Couple people getting lost and some sound system issues later and we’re rocking and rolling with the first workout hooray! This first one was a 5 exercise circuit for 4 rounds at 50 sec of work and 10 sec of rest. Some amusing antics during the workout by my buddy Bryan which almost resulted in a face plant. But he was rocking the workout at level II and sometimes level III.
As we’re finishing up Nico Rithner from ATSCI arrived to teach the kettlebell clinic. Nico taught an excellent class starting with the basics of the swing, clean, press and jerk. After which he proceded to take the attendee’s through some grueling circuits. Also for those of you in Colorado, Nico can get you kettlebells locally, so no shipping charges! Also we’ll be hitting the incline Sunday. He brings bells and is planning on doing 140 clean and jerks at the top. Myself….I’ll be cleaning my empty water bottle if I’m still standing, I’m working up to the pink kettlebell
Ann is a winner from a Bridal Festival and on her second workout, surely she won’t complete the next…
On to the Isreali Commando Challenge. A training session created as a right of passage for Isreali special ops cats when Scott Sonnon visited to teach. 4 exercises must all be completed within 1 min for 20 minutes. Any ’round’ you don’t finish them all, you don’t get a point for that round. For the basic level the operator must perform 2 reps for each exercise and side if applicable. Intermediate is 4 reps each and commando level is 6 reps each. Being as it was many of the attendee’s second or third workout(Ann the workout annihilator!) I cut the rounds down to 10. My GymBoss was taking control of the fight and it took me almost 5 min to set up the timer…wrong.
At this point everyone was getting a bit weary including myself as evident by not being able to set up a simple 1 min round on the timer
Had a nice Prasara cooldown that has become a client favorite. Then answered questions for the next few minutes and made sure everyone was eating as soon as they got home and stretching the rest of the day. Cleaned up, put the princess decorations all back in order, dropped off equipment at storage and ate a good lunch. Later that night hit dinner and UFC 113 with my girlfriend and another local trainer and his wife and called it a day.
Overall the Grand Opening, was slightly less ‘grand’ than planned, but the workouts went excellent and everyone left with at least a new found respect for different forms of exercise. No one did take up the offer on the Anaconda challenge and is still open for anyone that has never done rope training before.
There are pictures, but oddly enough, I can’t get them off either camera. I’d like to thank my girlfriend Tawny for all the work and support, without her, the week and grand opening never would have been as good as it was. Also Nico took me up on almost a 12 hour notice, so super props to him. And also to Robin’s Danceworks for letting me use their studio for all my training(if you have kids that like to dance, get them in
)
